Joseph, The Wonder Boy, with his amazing woodsman skills, scouted and lopped succulent branches from scrub and weed trees. Suddenly the goats had a tasty treat! He learned the names and breeds of the hens and all the secret places they laid their eggs. Amazingly eggs were collected, washed and boxed! Compost needed turning? Wonder Boy to the rescue!
Bella Stella created “one family at a time”and became the docent for the Tino and Mycetes bunny area, insuring that these celebrities have breaks from the paparazzi. Stella and her bella mom, Shafina helped develop our “What Breed Are You?”game too. Food scraps bins dirty? Not any more thanks to S&S. Goats needed bathed and walked; Stella wondrously transformed them into clean, exercised, pampered pets. And nobody collected nitrogen rich chicken, goat, and rabbit poop for the compost mix quite like Shafina.Of her favorite experience while volunteering at the Outpost, Shafina says she enjoys “putting out the food scraps. I like the smell when they first emerge from the bins, because they never smell the same. After the scraps are out of the containers, I enjoy watching the chickens and goats gathering peeking and gnawing at them.” Additionally, Stella and Joseph’s Mom likes the physical work and learning from our apprentices, Chris and Emmanuel, about the relationship between the food scraps and soil.
