Compost Learning Center

Compost Distribution

We provide finished compost for NYC Parks, community groups,  and visitors.

Earth Matter NY works with The Trust for Governors Island, Community Compost Network, and local partners to make compost. We mix landscape materials collected on Governors Island, food scraps collected through our Zero Waste Island Initiative, food scraps from NYC residents and other local partners to make compost at our Compost Learning Center.

Compost for Your Home

Join us at the Compost Learning Center to learn about our closed-loop compost systems, help us screen some finished compost, and take some home with you!

Partnerships on Governors Island

Our finished compost is used by our partners at the Trust for Governors Island. It is applied to greening initiatives on Governors Island, including the National Park Service, programming partners in Nolan Park, and GrowNYC’s Teaching Garden.

We use compost made at the Compost Learning Center on Soil Start Farm, an experimental hub for testing small scale farming methods in New York City. The farm grows greens, fruits, herbs and shrubs, supplying vendors on Governors Island with fresh produce and hosting workshops for visitors during open weekend hours.
