Please find information below on how to get our site. We are open to the public on weekends from 12pm-4pm from May through October. At all other times, you must have a scheduled visit with us in order to access our site. We are a working compost facility and cannot accept drop-in visits.

Directions to the Governors Island Ferry

The Governors Island Ferry is operated by the Trust for Governors Island. All passengers ride free on Saturdays and Sundays before 11am.

Ferry from Manhattan

The Governors Island Ferry departs from the Battery Maritime Building located at 10 South Street in Lower Manhattan. It runs all 7 days of the week. The ferry terminal is accessible as follows:

J to Broad St. station
R or W to Whitehall St. station

By Bus

M6, M9, and M15

Ferry from Brooklyn

The Governors Island Ferry from Brooklyn runs on Saturdays, Sundays, and Holiday Mondays in the summer from two Brooklyn locations: Pier 6 in Brooklyn Bridge Park and Red Hook/Atlantic Basin.

The NYC Ferry

NYC Ferry, the City’s public ferry service, also serves Governors Island throughout most of the year through their South Brooklyn (SBK) Route, with stops on the east side of Downtown and Midtown Manhattan, and along the Brooklyn waterfront. On summer weekends, NYC Ferry provides service to Governors Island via a direct shuttle between Wall Street/Pier 11 and Governors Island. The Trust for Governors Island does not operate NYC Ferry, and tickets for NYC Ferry cannot be purchased on the Governors Island website.
