Who Cares? Pablo Ortega Garcia- that’s who!

Lots of people say they are concerned about the environment, but it takes a special kind of person to actually do something about it. Pablo Ortega Garcia is a man who truly cares…about the environment, about learning, and about sharing.

As a grad student at CUNY Brooklyn College, a substitute teacher, and a Taylor Environment Group project monitor, Pablo knows a lot. And he knows enough to know that there is always something more to know. His latest learning adventure is volunteering at the Earth Matter Compost Outpost. “All the composters I know have the composting process and quantities in their head and seem to be more artists than technicians. I would like to learn how to do compost metrics and figure out what energy goes where and what can be done to make it more economical to the common household.”

Pablo doesn’t mind getting his hands dirty in the pursuit of knowledge. “I enjoy separating the contamination from the compostable matter. I know how much of a difference it makes for quality compost. The amount of money spent in getting rid of a valuable resource (food scraps) is of great interest to me. It reminds me how in 19th century Brooklyn, they would throw away gasoline in the production of kerosene because the gasoline was of no commercial value.”

If you care show it, do something about it. That’s the way Pablo rolls, and we are all the better for it.
