Entry-Level Volunteer Opportunities

Events

Earth Matter supports partner organizations at their events and gives event attendees an opportunity to learn more about composting. Our volunteers are a vital part of these events! By signing up, here’s how you might be involved:

  • Source Separation: Set up source separation stations, assist with food scrap collection, and engage with event attendees by giving tips and helping to build awareness and excitement around composting.
  • Tabling: Set up tabling areas, hand out literature on “How to Compost”, bring out our animals for compost education demonstrations, and work with attendees on hands-on activities.

Upon registering, you will be contacted by Earth Matter to confirm your volunteer registration.

Zero Waste at the Just Food G.A.L.A

We would like to invite you to volunteer with us at the Just Food's Gathering to Activate, Liberate, and Appreciate (G.A.L.A.) as a Zero Waste Educator.

The G.A.L.A. is a walk-around, tasting benefit that is centering folks who share Just Food's belief that growing, cooking and sharing food is an act of justice. It Highlights more than 30 local, queer, of color and ally chefs, culinary artists, and good food businesses we love, many working outside and around the traditional restaurant system.

As a Zero Waste Educator you will help set-up, staff and breakdown the recycling station and help event goers recycle their materials into the right bins. We have the goal to make this a Zero Waste event as we have done in the past. Zero waste means that 90% or more of the discharged materials will be diverted from landfill and recycled or composted. This is a wonderful event and a great way to network and spread the awareness of composting and recycling.

You do not need any prior knowledge. We will provide gloves, grabbers and aprons.
