Entry-Level Volunteer Opportunities

Events

Earth Matter supports partner organizations at their events and gives event attendees an opportunity to learn more about composting. Our volunteers are a vital part of these events! By signing up, here’s how you might be involved:

  • Source Separation: Set up source separation stations, assist with food scrap collection, and engage with event attendees by giving tips and helping to build awareness and excitement around composting.
  • Tabling: Set up tabling areas, hand out literature on “How to Compost”, bring out our animals for compost education demonstrations, and work with attendees on hands-on activities.

Upon registering, you will be contacted by Earth Matter to confirm your volunteer registration.

 

City of Water Day

Join the NYC Compost Project hosted by Earth Matter to help ensure that City of Water Day 2017 is a zero waste event.

We need volunteers to assist with several things throughout the day including event education, set up, tabling, and helping collect clean cardboard from the kayak race.

Volunteers will help educate event-goers about separating their food scraps and compostable serviceware from recyclables and landfill bound waste. Gloves, aprons, pickers, and training will be provided to everyone.

Volunteers needed:
4-6 people - from 9:00-1:30 pm (9 am ferry to GI, 2 pm earliest return ferry after shift)
4-6 people - from 1:00-5:30 pm - (12:30 pm ferry to GI, 6 pm earliest return ferry after shift)

Jazz Age Lawn Party

Join the NYC Compost Project hosted by Earth Matter to help ensure the Jazz Age Lawn Party is a zero waste event.

We need volunteers to help with set up and tearing down of source separation stations, as well as helping to educate event-goers during lunch about separating their food scraps and compostable serviceware from recyclables and landfill bound waste. Gloves, aprons, pickers, and training will be provided to everyone.

Event-goers will get to enjoy the party before or after their shift.

Volunteers needed:
12 people - from 9:00 am -1:30 pm (9 am ferry to GI, any return ferry)
20 people - from 12-4:30 pm (Sign up via NY Cares -- 12 pm ferry to GI, 4:30 pm return ferry)
14 people - from 1:30-6:30 pm (1:30 pm ferry to GI, 7 pm return ferry)
