Welcome to the Lavender Field
on Governors Island!

The Lavender Field Project on Governors Island is a healing space for the community, the bees, and the earth.

FIRST, the lavender field provides visitors with a calm, fragrant oasis where they can set aside the stresses of city life and participate in our restorative yoga and meditation workshops.

SECOND, lavender is a potentially beneficial pollinator plant to protect and support Governors Island’s honey bees in the face of climate change.

THIRD, the lavender is planted in soil enriched with compost made by the New York City Compost Project hosted by Earth Matter NY. This demonstrates one of the ways we nourish the earth and  keep organic food waste out of New York City’s landfills.

Born in 2017, the Lavender Field on Governors Island was created by Soil Start Farm Cooperators in partnership with the Island Bee Project.

Thanks to donations from all of you, we reached our Ioby.com goal to establish the Lavender Field.  Please consider making a donation to sustain and maintain the field in its second year.

Join us Sundays at 2:30pm from May 13 – August 5  for special activities that promote creativity, reflection, and relaxation at the Lavender Field. Click on the link for current offerings.
